Croke Park stadium in Dublin is home to GAA games and is the third largest stadium in Europe with a capacity of 82,000 seated spectators. It was originally built in 1894 and has since gone under extensive re-construction to become a state of the art stadium.
The stadium has had some extremely interesting events take place. One being it was home to both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Special Olympics in 2003. In June 2012, Pope Benedict XVI gave a speech over video link to over eighty thousand people for the closing ceremony of the 50th international Eucharist congress.
Not only has Croke Park witness outstanding sporting battles, they have played home to musical icons. Tina Turner, The Police, Neil Diamond, Elton John and Neil Diamond have all played in the venue. More recently Ed Sheeran, One Direction and Beyoncé have come and played in Croke Park and wowed the crowds in Dublin.
