The 100 year centenary of the Easter rising takes place on 27th March 2016 with the actual date of the 1916 rising is the 24th April but it is celebrated on the official day of Easter. There will be numerous events taking place across Dublin on both dates so be sure not to miss out.

Some facts about the Easter Rising:

  • An armed revolution in Ireland during Easter Week, 1916.
  • It was the most symbolic uprising that Ireland had even seen.
  • The General Post Office became the main headquarters of the rebellion, with five of the seven members of the Military Council/Provisional Government of the Irish Republic serving there.
  • The Irish fighters got the date wrong, April 28, 1916 the amount of British troops ready to fight was 19,000 while the Irish Republic groups had only 1,600 fighters.

The official parade to acknowledge this rising will take place in Dublin City Centre. The parade will take place on Easter Sunday 27th March 2016. Dublin City Council have organised many events to coincide with 1916 commemorations.
